Hello Region 5 friends,
I'll jump right in with the news a lot of you are waiting for - the 2012 Region 5 "Of The Year" awards.  Thanks to all who nominated, once again it was a very tough choice.  Here are the winners:
Newsletter of the Year:  IPMS/Butch O'Hare
Web Site of the Year:  IPMS/Fort Crook
Chapter of the Year:  IPMS/Alexander Lippisch
Congrats to the winners, and once again thanks to all for the nominations.  You guys are doing some great work out there, I'm very proud of our Region!  The winners have been forwarded to the DLC for overall IPMS winners, which will be announced at the IPMS Nationals this summer in Colorado.
We have a new Chapter to welcome to the Region 5 family:  Northwoods Scale Model Phanatics, from Eagle River, WI.  Welcome aboard guys!  Region 5 is now up to an even 40 clubs!
I would like for you all to be thinking about hosting the Regional for 2014.  I should have mentioned this earlier.  If anybody has any questions about hosting a Regional, let me know.
This weekend IPMS/West Central Missouri is hosting their annual Modelfest.  It is shaping up to be a great show, please come out to Kansas City and join in the fun!  You'll find all the info at the web site:  Including some very important parking directions.
That's it for now, happy modeling!

April 24, 2013   ModelFest 2013 - Saturday May 4

IPMS/West Central Missouri is proud to announce the ModelFest 2013, coming up on Saturday May 4 at the AmeriStar Casino in Kansas City, MO.

We have an excellent venue for this event, with a large, well lit room with plenty of space for models, vendors, and seating.  There are plenty of places to eat right on site, with a great variety of food.  We have also upgraded our trophy package with some very attractive awards this year, along with our very special Judges Grand Award, the Dick Clay Memorial Trophy and a new award, The Eagle, for Creativity & Imagination in Modeling.  We also offer one of the best raffles around!
Directions for Contest Participants:
The contest area is located in the Star Pavilion at the AmeriStar Casino Complex.  The Star Pavilion is located on the west end of the complex.  After you turn right into the AmeriStar Complex, you will come to a 4-way stop.  Turn right at this intersection and go west.  You will see a large parking garage coming up on your left.  The best place to park is in the parking garage.   Depending on which level of the parking garage you park in, take the elevator to the floor marked "Casino" (2nd floor) and follow the signs.  As you walk into the Complex, the Star Pavilion will be on the right hand side.
If you prefer to park in the outside lot, there is a large set of doors right next to the parking garage on the east side.  You may also choose to unload your models at this entrance, however you will have to park out a ways as the entire first lot is strictly for handicapped parking, and the second lot is for valet parking.  If you unload at these doors, you will simply walk in and the Star Pavilion will be on the right.
We are not allowed to post any kind of signs directing you to the Star Pavilion, so please note these directions.
Please visit our web site for more information at:

You will also find the registration forms, pictures of the awards, and vendor contact info on our web site.

Hope to see you all there!
